Here are a few practical ways to deal with procrastination.

1. Know what to do

ow, this is the foundation of dealing with procrastination. You cannot be lying dead like a lazy peanut and think, “How to do nothing without doing anything.” You are not that guy; trust me, you are not!
You need to have an accurate picture of what task you have to finish before an allotted deadline. This is one of the crucial and yet most manageable steps, and 98% of people will pass this with ease.

I want to do something but I don’t know what to do. I just don’t want to do nothing.

2. Make To-do List

Why is every other dude on the internet asking everyone to maintain a to-do list?

Maintaining a to-do list is one the most intelligent thing you can do at the start of your day to make it productive. Remember the saying “Know your every move”? This is it. A to-do list will help you organize and prioritize all your tasks.

These things are pretty minor to notice but do have a significant impact in day to day life of a person.

Benefits of having a to-do list

  • Organize tasks
  • Organize time
  • Helps prioritize more critical tasks
  • Feels rewarding after striking off a task
  1. 5-second move

3. 5-second move

So finally, this is the best part of the entire article. The 5-second move is an outstanding, practical, and fastest step you can take to ditch procrastination. It is one of the ways I use most to deal with procrastination, and I can bet once you understand the power it poses, you will also eventually find yourself doing it often than any other ways listed.

What is a 5-second move?

The 5-second move is a gesture to deal with procrastination where you take the first step towards your next task in your to-do list within 5 seconds you have hit the thought. This is very simple, given you know what your next job is. This is why the first two steps are essential.

Case study

This is a widespread real-life example I have listed here from my day today. I had to write this article. I was lying on the couch scrolling through Instagram. I checked my to-do list. I had to write this article, but I didn’t want to get up. I just had lunch, and I was feeling lazy. But I tried to strike off that task from my to-do list. The thought had hit me, and I had 5 seconds to make a move, or I would have had to wait maybe an hour or two. I made my first move. I pulled myself up, went to my desk, and turned on my laptop. Logged in and started writing. This is how it works, and now you’re reading this article.

4. Know the reason why

You must be aware of the importance your next task holds in your life. Maybe you are grinding to create a passive income. Know why it is essential to you. WHY do you want what you want? Perhaps you want to escape the rat trap or fulfill your dreams or pay hospitals bills for someone you immensely love. Maybe it is for the new music you are working on. What is your motive behind it? Wanna you be famous? Wanna you be rich? You wanna tell the world what real music sounds like? I want to guide people towards living a conscious life. I want to share my secrets to push one limits and achieve whatever one aims for

Stay motivated

  • Stick posters
  • Keep pictures on your desk
  • Visualize your goal
  • Learn more about achievers in your field

Reward yourself

Rewarding yourself is an excellent way to feel enthusiastic about completing your tasks. Maybe give yourself a cookie at the end. Just don’t have too many, not suitable for health. Salad works for me.

5. Take effective breaks

Taking adequate breaks is a super important step to prevent yourself from getting fed up with your tasks. Meanwhile, taking breaks consciously and effectively is something you should be highly concerned about. You don’t want to be that person who takes super long breaks and starts procrastination again. Otherwise, you will have to go over everything again to stop it and get to work.

The Pomodoro technique

The Pomodoro technique is one of the most effective techniques for taking efficient breaks.

The technique is simple. 25min work – 5min break. Let’s say you are studying for your exams. Divide the topics in your to-do list and assign them 25 min each to present. Then take control, and conscious 5 min break in between every task.

Choose what you do in your breaks wisely

Being conscious while taking a break is super important. What you do during your vacation is essential as doing something addictive is prohibited. You may not want to scroll through reels/TikTok because you won’t be able to stop. Also, if you start working again, your brain won’t compensate for the dopamine rush you get when you look at your social media feed. And you’ll end up feeling…..weird.
